1898-1934 HOUSTON

Baland through the centuries Houston is the fifth metropolis of the United States, the Apollo 11 spacecraft that the first human landed on moon launched in here; Houston was born in 1836 with the Texas independence from Mexico, at the same year, Allan Baland also was born in here, the founder of American BALAND brand. With the victory of the industrial revolution, the rapid development of science and technology, various new technologies, new inventions and styles, and which are quickly applied to industrial production, handicraft workshops also turned to the mechanization trend. The electricity and a large number of machine inventions have been widely used for all kind of industries, so that the iron and steel has become the most basic industrial materials. The traditional steel-making methods can not meet the urgently needs of industrial and technological development, The British William Kelly, who is the earliest people with achievements in discovering the new steel making method. The BOF steelmaking process was firstly published by the British inventor H. Bessemer. In 1856, who invented bottom blow acid converter steel, also called acid Bessemer process. With the process, in minutes, about 10 tons of molten iron can become wrought iron or steel, whereas the traditional method requires a few days, or even several months for charcoal stovek, the high efficiency of converter suddenly shocked the world steel industry. However, in the further promotion, it’s proved that Bessemer’s converter cannot use at all due to the pig iron materials problem, the different pig iron has different results during steel-making, finally the carbon content could not meet the requirement, thus the BOF method failed to spread, later a technician carried out research in this area and found that the iron ore of the United States had lower content of sulfur and phosphor and precisely fit for converter. The United States began to exploit iron ore substantially, converter steelmaking method rapidly spread to the United States.

Allan Baland At such a historical background, Allan Baland, our heroine from an ordinary iron and steel worker to the well-known enterprises of technical adviser, who has been dealing with jobs relevant to iron and steel, until the decline of his life, he really set up his own enterprise—in 1898, BALAND Spring Factory was founded. At the initial stage, the factory mainly produced industrial springs for textile machines, lathes, drills, grinding machines, and other large machinery manufacturers, until the 1920s spring began to be used for mattresses. From then, BALAND started producing professional mattress springs. John Baland During the 1970s, global awareness about environmental issues grew significantly. John Baland, a key figure in the industry, played an essential role in promoting sustainable practices. In 1972, he organized a major symposium in Sweden with over 1,300 participants, focusing on industrial sustainability and its applications. This event highlighted the importance of collaboration between industries and governments to protect the environment. Baland's efforts extended beyond advocacy, implementing tangible practices across his factories, reducing emissions, and optimizing production processes to meet global standards. His commitment to sustainable growth set an example for the mattress industry worldwide.
